Downward Spiral

I am a product of a small East Texas town where I lived a pretty simple life. I learned the value of hard work, adversity and community. When I was 21, I had an accident where my right hand had to be amputated. With the help of my friends, family and God I overcame this tragedy and escaped depression. Within a year, I was back to work and married with a child on the way.

Seven years later my wife passed away. This sent me spiraling into a deep depression that lead to my losing custody of my daughter a year later. When that happened I left everything behind and started traveling. On the road I found and overcame many addictions.

In the last four years I've seen many stages and changes in my life. With the help of many people and organizations like the Stephen Center, I have started to make positive changes. I still have a long way to go, but I am not nearly as lost or depressed as I used to be.

I thank the Stephen Center Emergency Shelter for providing me with a place to stay, giving me guidance and sharing this part of my journey.
