Lady of Lourdes annual Walk for the Homeless

Our Lady of Lourdes annual Walk for the Homeless will be on October 17th, 2010. The walk benefits the Stephen Center. Principal Bill Kelly stated that "this is one of the events that the students look forward to every year. It is so much more than just a walk to all those involved. The students enjoy this event because they get to have a wholesome walk while raising money for those in need."

Festivities kicked off on Thursday, October 7th with a bake sale and a visit from Cindy Oelke, Development Director at the Stephen Center. Cindy spoke with the 7th and 8th graders who are the coordinators for the week’s activities. In addition to the bake sale and walk the school will have a coin challenge and collect donations before and after mass on October 17th at Our Lady of Lourdes parish. The walk begins at 1:00 pm on October 17th. The students walk from the school near Hanscom Park to the Shelter at 2715 “Q” St in South Omaha. “It is amazing when you see all of the students crossing Q Street on their way to the shelter” stated Cindy Oelke. "This is one of my favorite events."

Principal Bill Kelly and the students will present a check to the Stephen Center in November to cap off the event.
