One of our volunteers noticed that the children’s playground equipment was falling apart. The slide had broken away and staff had removed the slide for safety reasons. The old equipment was showing the wear and tear of kids who had been having fun on it for years. Jacquie Gray took things into her own hands. She contacted her step-father to see if his foundation would be willing to buy new playground equipment for the children that call the Stephen Center Emergency Shelter home. He was more than willing. He asked Jacquie to find playground equipment that would be suitable for the children at the Stephen Center. Jacquie found the perfect playground at Rainbow Play Systems. Rainbow installed the new playground on June 22nd. Even though it was a very warm day, kids were out playing on the equipment later that evening.
Stephen Center, Inc. has served the homeless and low-income men, women and children in Omaha since 1984.
