STEPHEN CENTER RECEIVES PROJECT OF MERIT AWARD


The Stephen Center received the Project of Merit award from the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance (SONA) at the annual award banquet held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Johnny’s restaurant.  SONA is a coalition of over 45 neighborhood groups from the Missouri River to  72nd street and Harrison to Dodge street – working together to improve South Omaha.  The award was given to Stephen Center for providing over 25 years of helping the homeless and poor in South Omaha overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty.  SONA also awarded the outstanding member award to City Council Member – Gary Gernandt and the outstanding volunteer to long time South Omaha resident and activist Loni Wasikowski.

Stephen Center, Inc. has served the homeless and low-income men, women and children in Omaha since 1984.  Stephen Center is the only “dry” emergency shelter in Omaha, focusing on assisting those who have made a commitment to overcome the life destroying effects of drugs and alcohol.  Stephen Center operates three distinct programs:  Stephen Center Emergency Shelter, Stephen Center HERO Program and Stephen Center Transitional Living Program.
