Our Lady of Lourdes fifth annual Walk for the Homeless was held on behalf of Stephen Center on October 19, 2008. Principal, Bill Kelly presented Cindy Oelke of Stephen Center a check for $2,001.81 at the school mass on November 25th. The students and parishioners walk from the school near Hanscom Park to the Shelter at 2715 “Q” St in South Omaha. In addition to the seven mile walk, the students held a bake sale and a change war between the classes. Principal Bill Kelly stated that “the students really have fun with the change war. Each class challenges the other classes to see who can bring in the most spare change for Stephen Center.” Donations were also collected at the church. Principal Kelly commented that the students and parishioners enjoy this event because they get to have a wholesome walk while raising money for those in need.
