THANKSGIVING ON THE MAYFLOWER
Omaha, NE – October 20, 2008
Thanksgiving means so many different things to so many different people – spending time with loved ones, watching the football games on television, the Macy’s parade, a huge feast complete with pumpkin pie….so many things come to mind. Guests of the shelter will be able to experience all those wonders this Thanksgiving Day. According to Del Bomberger, Executive Director, “The shelter has experienced a dramatic increase in demand for services, particularly women and children, in the Omaha area. We need to make sure that everyone has a safe, warm place to stay this holiday season. We also want them to have a happy holiday season.”
The wonderful people at Mayflower Transit / Select Van & Storage are sponsoring Thanksgiving on the Mayflower. Scott Riha, Corporate Sales and Marketing, stated that this is an opportunity for his company to give back to the community that they serve. “This is the second year that we will be doing this event. The shelter guests really enjoyed the festive atmosphere last year and we wanted to make the event even more this year.” Not only will there be a fabulous turkey dinner with all the trimmings, but guests can sit back on the comfy sofas and catch the football game. The moving van will be parked at Stephen Center and shelter guests are welcome at anytime during the day.
Stephen Center will also be kicking off our “Stuff the Sam” for the holiday season. We welcome everyone looking for something to do on Thanksgiving to drop off presents and canned goods for Stephen Center guests at 2723 “Q” Street. We want to fill the SAM this holiday season! The SAM will be parked at Stephen Center for the duration of the holiday season. We welcome your gifts at anytime. You can contact Stephen Center at (402) 715-5442 to sponsor a family. We can always use gift cards due to the transient nature of our guests.
