Success Story: Karl’s Story
If you were offered a place to stay, a bed to sleep in, three good meals a day, clothes, and a hot shower, would you do it? That is only the beginning of what you will get from the Stephen Center. You will have all of your personal things, such as medical and dental care taken care of as well. To top it all off, you will be surrounded by people that are trying to help you and actually care about what happens to you. The only thing that they will ask you in return is to treat people with respect, make the effort to get the help you need, help with chores around the shelter and keep yourself clean and sober.
I’ve been at the Stephen Center for quite a while now. They have helped me accomplish so many things for myself. A short time ago, I would not have thought that this was possible. I have been referred to so many different programs and agencies for the help that I need. I finally have all my medical needs taken care. I am also seeing a counselor at Douglas County for my mental problems. I’ve met people with Community Alliance that have entered me into their day program. Now I have a constructive way to spend my days. If all that wasn’t enough, the Stephen Center staff is also helping me apply for disability and helping me to find an apartment to live in.
I honestly don’t think I could have accomplished any of these things if not for the Stephen Center. All I can offer are my thanks, my prayers and my continuing effort to keep my life on track. Thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Stephen Center. Its people like you who give people like me a chance to live life instead of survive life.
